We believe in education—not judgment. The best diamond for you is the one that makes you happiest!
Both Natural and Lab Diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical—so much so that even professionals need specialized equipment to tell them apart. The real investment isn’t just in the diamond itself, but in the joy it brings you.

For peace of mind, we strongly suggest purchasing insurance within the first year—especially if you're planning a proposal while traveling!
Do you offer Appraisals?
Yes we do, all new natural diamond purchases over $10,000 come with a complimentary appraisal.
For lab grown diamonds, please use the bill of sale. However, if you need an additional appraisal, please reach out to our team and make a request at care@bybonniejewelry.com
What do you mean by “diamond curation”? How is that different from what other jewelers offer?
If you’ve watched any of our Youtube videos, you’ll notice how much we stress that the overall beauty and brilliance of a diamond can not be judged merely with a grading report but with the human eye.
Diamond curation means we look, inspect, compare, and filter through actual diamonds where we will only give you options for our top selection of either lab grown or natural diamonds. For example, we look for the best cuts/makes, H color diamonds that face up like F/G, and VS clarity with less noticeable inclusions to the naked eye.
Most importantly with lab grown diamonds, our curated options will have no tints/tinges that are common and inherent in the growth process, not disclosed on any diamond certificates, and can be difficult to see even on hi-def videos you typically see online.
We sort through a vast number of diamonds to present you with only 3-5 of our best options, expertly tailored to meet, if not exceed, your expectations!
How are Natural Mined and Lab Grown diamonds made?
Natural Diamonds are formed from carbon under extreme heat and pressure deep within the Earth over 1-3 billion years. Fun fact: Natural diamonds are the oldest thing on Earth you can touch!
Lab Grown Diamonds are created using two methods:
- High-Pressure High Temperature (HPHT): Mimics the natural diamond formation process under intense heat and pressure.
- Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD): Uses carbon-rich gas in a vacuum chamber—like a giant microwave growing diamonds!
Want to learn more? Watch this video for a deeper dive into HPHT vs. CVD!
Do your diamonds come with GIA/IGI or GCAL certification?
Yes!
✔️ All By Bonnie Natural Diamonds above 1.00ct come with GIA certification.
✔️ All By Bonnie Lab Diamonds above 1.00ct come with GIA, IGI, or GCAL certification.
You will receive a hard copy of the report upon delivery or pickup of your completed order.
However, the most important thing to remember is: Don’t choose a diamond based on certification alone! Quality, brilliance, and cut matter just as much. Check out Bonnie’s experience visiting GCAL here!
Does Lab Grown Diamonds test as real diamonds?
Yes! Lab Grown Diamonds test as real diamonds.
However, most standard diamond testers only distinguish between diamond and stimulants (like moissanite or cubic zirconia), not between Lab and Natural Diamonds. The only way to tell them apart is with specialized equipment that detects differences in trace elements and crystal growth.
Another way to identify a Lab vs. Natural Diamond is by checking the laser-inscribed certificate number on the girdle using a microscope or loupe. This unique ID links to a grading report detailing the diamond’s specs and origin.
At By Bonnie Jewelry, all diamonds above 1.00ct are certified by third-party, non-profit gemological institutions and come with a microscopic laser inscription. Watch this video where Bonnie explains it in detail!
What is the main difference between a lab grown vs. natural mined diamonds? Should I buy CVD or HPHT?
The biggest difference is how they are made—Natural Diamonds form over billions of years in the Earth, while Lab Grown Diamonds are created in a controlled environment. Visually, they look and feel the same.
As for CVD vs. HPHT, both growth methods are acceptable! What truly matters is the final diamond's cut, brilliance, and lack of unwanted tints. Focus on quality, not just the growth process, to ensure a stunning, fiery diamond.
Do diamonds keep their value?
While Natural Diamonds generally retain value better due to historical demand and rarity, Lab Diamonds do not hold value in the same way because of their infinite supply. However, like any luxury item, resale value depends on market conditions, quality, and demand.
That said, the true investment lies in craftsmanship. A beautifully designed and masterfully crafted piece will always stand the test of time, regardless of the diamond type. Rather than focusing on resale value, invest in quality, artistry, and a piece that brings you joy every time you wear it—because a well-crafted ring isn’t just jewelry, it’s an heirloom in the making.
Do they sparkle the same as natural diamonds? Will it tarnish, change color or dull over time?
They absolutely sparkle the same as natural diamonds since sparkle and brilliance are directly tied to precision cutting and manufacturing of the rough material! Just check out any of our lab grown diamond videos. And no, it will not tarnish, change color or dull over time, just like a natural diamond.
Where are natural diamonds from?
The most notable diamond-producing countries include Botswana, Russia, Canada, South Africa, Angola, and Australia.
Where are lab diamonds grown?
Diamonds are grown in the United States and all over the world in high-tech facilities staffed by scientists, engineers, and technicians with main production being in China and India.
Can I trade in and upgrade a lab grown engagement ring I purchased from you?
We do not offer trade-ins and upgrade lab grown diamonds. All sales for lab grown diamonds are final sale.
What is your diamond upgrade policy?
All natural mined loose diamonds and diamond stud earrings purchased from By Bonnie, which excludes lab grown/lab-created diamonds and colored gemstones, may be upgraded as long as the following terms and conditions are met:
- New item purchase must be valued at double the trade-in amount. This does not include the worn-setting, sales tax, shipping, or any repair work.
- All applicable taxes or duties will be charged on the full price of the new diamond before any credit is applied.
- The diamond that is being upgraded must be in original purchase condition, free from chips or abrasions, and accompanied by the original and official diamond report.
- Some Diamonds may have additional restrictions when trading in. Trade-in amount for these diamonds will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Please email us at care@bybonniejewelry.com for more information on our diamond upgrade policy.
