Today, we're finally diving into pink diamonds! Yes, you know me—I’m all about pink, pink, pink everywhere!
And this ring? It’s giving total princess-queen vibes! So, get comfy and grab your coffee; you’re going to want it for this one. Welcome back to another By Bonnie blog, where we talk about all things diamonds. Let’s dive in!
Alright, before we get into just how gorgeous this ring is with all its juicy details, let’s spill the tea on who recently got engaged with a massive pink diamond! That would be the fabulous Christian Serratos—yep, the actress from The Walking Dead.
So, Christian just got engaged with an incredible 11.5-carat, pear-shaped, lab-grown peachy pink diamond with red accents on the band. And for any naysayers out there about lab-grown diamonds, let me stop you right there! Not too long ago, I posted on Instagram about whether it’s rude to ask if a diamond is natural or lab-grown. The answer? Mind your business.
Christian herself said, “This is my dream ring. It’s perfection.” Why? Because that beauty in a natural diamond would be tens of millions! So let’s dive in, shall we?
In the last five years, we’ve seen some seriously big natural pink diamonds hit the auction block! Let’s recap a few, shall we?
First, the Eternal Pink, a stunning 10.5-carat cushion-cut bubblegum pink that sold at Sotheby’s New York for a jaw-dropping $34.8 million.
Then there was Eden Rose, an over 10-carat round, brilliant, fancy intense pink diamond that sold for $13.3 million at Christie’s in June 2024.
And we can’t forget the Fortune Pink, an 18-carat pear-shaped beauty, which went for $28.8 million at Christie’s Geneva in November 2022.
Now, for anyone wondering why lab-grown diamonds are popular, just take a look at these price tags! Twenty, even ten years ago, diamonds like these were totally out of reach for most people. But now, lab-grown options are making the dream attainable for anyone to enjoy. Oh, and for those of you sticking around, here’s a bonus treat at the end! I’ll reveal the approximate price of Christian Serratos’ pink diamond engagement ring—so stay tuned if you’re curious about the numbers!
Alright, let’s get back to what we’re really here for—showing off this stunning light pink diamond ring I crafted! It’s time to dive into all the details because, wow, this was one intricate project.
So, quick story time! My dear client reached out and said, “Bonnie, I just want something pink. Make it happen.” And let me tell you, when it comes to pink diamonds, I am picky, people. Only the best for my clients! We bounced ideas back and forth—should it be pink sapphires? Pink diamonds? So, I showed him some beautiful pink sapphires, but then mentioned lab-grown pink diamonds in his budget. And that was it! He loved the idea of giving his future fiancée a truly magical ring.
And here it is, you guys—a pear-shaped, lab-grown, fancy pink diamond with a delicate halo, just as he requested. He was a little worried the halo might be too much, but I assured him a subtle one would keep it elegant. To complete this fairy-queen vibe, we went with a twisted shank on the side, adding that extra touch of romance.
And now... we have this gorgeous, one-of-a-kind ring! I love it and I can't wait for the bride to get it! Would you say yes if somebody gave you such a gorgeous ring?
One of the reasons I held off on a pink diamond project for so long is because, honestly, lab-grown pink diamond tech just isn’t quite there yet. Not like it is with colorless diamonds, anyway!
You've seen those gorgeous colorless diamonds all over my blogs, but even those still sometimes have tint issues. And that’s where the curation process comes in. We don’t just pick stones off some spinning video online. We hand-select every diamond.
Now, with pink diamonds, my hesitation was that I hadn’t yet seen one that made me go, “Yes, that’s the one!” Pink diamonds can be tricky—they can end up oversaturated, leaning toward brownish tones, or end up peachy instead of that pure pink. Case in point: Christian Serratos’ engagement ring. It has a gorgeous 11.5-carat stone, but to me, it reads more peach than pink.
And let’s be real—fancy-colored diamonds change drastically depending on the lighting. I saw a video of that same ring on her jeweler’s Instagram, and it looked totally different from the photos! That’s why, if you’re looking for a pink diamond, you need to know your shade: Do you want a soft blush pink? A vibrant bubblegum? Or maybe a deeper rose? Knowing that preference is key when shopping for these stones, especially online.
Now, let me show you some examples of lab-grown pink diamonds so you get a sense of the variety.
Some are darker and brownish,
and others are lighter, almost washed out. At the end of the day, it’s all about personal preference. But for me? I wanted a true pink diamond project, one that absolutely sparkles. But this one—this perfect light-medium pink—is finally it! It shimmers, it glows, and yes, it’s giving me all the pink sparkle vibes I was looking for.
Earlier, I mentioned just how jaw-dropping those prices are for natural pink diamonds—think $15 to $30 million territory! So after a little digging, I found that Christian Serratos' stunning ring, with its setting and all, comes in around $60,000 to $70,000. And that’s as of today’s pricing! Lab-grown prices have been on quite a ride, so if you’re watching this a year from now, that figure might be different.
