Pretty in Pink: The North-South Pink Sapphire and Diamond Band

Pretty in Pink: The North-South Pink Sapphire and Diamond Band

Who loves pink? Me! Today’s post is all about pink sapphires, and I have to give a big shout-out to my client Maggie, the proud owner of this gorgeous piece. Because of her, I get to share with the world how beautiful this design turned out. And remember what Elle Woods said, “Whoever said orange is the new pink was seriously disturbed.”

When Maggie first reached out, she told me, “Bonnie, I love your ring stack.” If you’ve seen that viral design before, you know what she’s talking about. It even inspired a smaller baby version that took off online. But Maggie wanted something different, a north-south version instead of the east-west style, and she wanted a single chunky band.

I absolutely loved that idea, especially when she said she wanted it in yellow gold. The result is breathtaking: alternating pink sapphires and emerald cut diamonds, each one perfectly set to create balance and brilliance. Even worn alone, this band has presence and personality. For everyone wondering about size, it’s 6.5mm in width, making it bold enough to wear solo or as a statement piece on your index finger.

You can pair it with other rings too. I styled it next to two colorless emerald cut diamond bands, and the look is pure luxury. It’s chunky, wide, and unapologetically bold. I love chunky—yes, chunky makes me happy! I don’t want to see my knuckle; I want coverage and drama. It’s such a fun and gorgeous statement piece.

And the best part? It’s incredibly versatile. If pink isn’t your color, it can be made with blue sapphires, green emeralds, or even custom gemstones. I’ve done it before and the results are always stunning. You can get one and stack it with your diamond bands, or get two east-west versions and mix them up for a bold layered look.

When I compare this ring to my own stack, both are wide with plenty of finger coverage. You know how sometimes you buy that classic piece in your wardrobe and just can’t stop styling it different ways? That’s exactly what this ring is like, it’s timeless, yet endlessly playful.

Now let’s talk craftsmanship. Making an eternity band with alternating natural pink sapphires isn’t easy. Each sapphire and diamond behaves differently when set, and without precision, you end up with gaps or uneven thickness. The challenge lies in engineering it perfectly so every stone aligns seamlessly and sits low on the finger. Sometimes that even means recutting stones to fit perfectly.

Take a look at the side profile, it’s low and smooth, which is rare for an eternity band of this kind. Achieving that takes skill, patience, and lots of technical planning. That’s why I always emphasize craftsmanship, it’s what makes a custom piece like this truly special.

Congratulations, Maggie! I hope you love it as much as I do. This is just the beginning of many creative projects together. Pieces like this make my heart so full. Color brings joy, and pink sapphires bring even more sparkle into life.
