This 5ct Ring Was Her First Gift to Herself
Share
I recently received a message from Samantha, and her words pierced right through my chest. I felt so much of myself in her story. Samantha is a first-generation immigrant, a successful Asian American businesswoman, a caretaker, and a fighter. She has worked hard since she was six years old, always taking care of everyone else—yet never truly splurging on herself.
But this time, she chose to begin her own collection of sparkles—not for anyone else, but as a reflection of self-love and a reminder of how far she has come.
Samantha, if you’re reading this: I applaud you. You are amazing. And you deserve this—every single bit of it.
Designing a Ring Worthy of Her Journey
When Samantha came to me, she told me she loved the Tulip design with French pavé. It’s elegant, feminine, and timeless. At first, she was thinking about a smaller size—maybe two or three carats. But as we worked together, I inspired her to go larger, because her story deserved a centerpiece as bold as her journey.
We landed on a five-carat center stone—and to make it uniquely hers, I designed it with a reverse taper French pavé band. The band is thicker on top and tapers slimmer on the sides, creating balance and elegance while drawing the eye right to that gorgeous center diamond.
For her wedding band, we designed a double gallery pavé band—substantial, detailed, and deeply meaningful.
More Than Jewelry: A Reflection of Self-Love
This wasn’t just about creating another engagement-style set. This was about a woman finally saying, “I deserve this.”
So often, women wait—waiting for someone else to gift them flowers, to buy them jewelry, to tell them they’re worth it. But Samantha chose to invest in herself.
This ring is not just sparkle; it’s a reminder of her resilience, her achievements, her sacrifices, and her love for herself. Every detail—the craftsmanship, the time, the thought—was poured into making this a true celebration of her journey.
The Finishing Touch: Stud Earrings
As a bonus, we also upgraded Samantha’s diamond studs. She had purchased a pair from a well-known retailer, but when I saw them in person, I immediately noticed the craftsmanship wasn’t right. The bulky prongs and heavy basket made them sit awkwardly on her ears.
So, I handcrafted a pair of studs designed to sit lower and hug her ear beautifully. The difference was phenomenal. Even her husband was stunned when he saw the transformation—it was such a proud moment for both of them.
Closing Thoughts
Samantha’s story is a powerful reminder: we don’t always need to wait for someone else to give us permission to shine. Sometimes, the most meaningful jewelry is the kind we give ourselves.
If you are on your own journey, ready to mark your milestone with something special and crafted with care, I’d love to help you design a piece that celebrates who you are becoming.
