Have french pavé in mind and want a gorgeous ring to pair it with?

It’s the weekend, and you know what that means—big diamonds! Welcome back to another By Bonnie Blog, where we talk about all things diamonds. We're kicking off the weekend with some serious bling.

Today, I’m excited to talk about the hidden halo. What exactly is a hidden halo? I’m also going to break down the differences between four-prong and six-prong settings, different millimeter sizes, and, of course, our fan-favorite band pairings. Get ready for an incredible journey into sparkle city. Let’s dive right in and showcase some stunning diamonds!

3.7ct Hidden Halo Round Cut Ring Pairing

First up, let's talk about this ring.

Here’s a little background: my client reached out saying she was ready for the upgrade of a lifetime. And I was like, yes, I’m here for it! We discussed the differences between four-prong and six-prong settings and how they compare. Let me show you right off the bat: here we have a 2.1-carat and a 3.7-carat ring.

For those wondering about the difference between six and four prongs, from afar, a six-prong setting tends to look a bit rounder. I’ve talked about this many times, but my client mentioned she loves the four-prong look. When I posted about the hidden halo, it really resonated with a lot of you. The hidden halo has surged in popularity, almost completely replacing the classic halo.

I’ve been in the business long enough to remember when halo rings were all the rage about ten to fifteen years ago. But now, it’s all about the hidden halo. I love showing you different band pairings, so let's dive into that next!

What Is A Hidden Halo?

So, what is a hidden halo, you might ask?

What Is A Hidden Halo? What Is A Hidden Halo?

Essentially, a halo is a row of diamonds surrounding the main diamond, adding almost a full carat to the look. Now, a hidden halo means the diamonds are set on the side of the stone, only visible when you view the ring from the side. This design doesn’t distract from the main stone’s beauty but adds an elegant touch when viewed from the side.

We’ve crafted countless hidden halo rings in various shapes: pear, oval, round, radiant, and emerald—the choices are endless. Now, let's get back to this gorgeous pairing!

4 Prong 2.8mm French Pave Wedding Band Pairing

When my client said she wanted a 100% match, I knew we had to create something truly special. The result? A completely seamless look with a 2.8mm French pavé band.

If you’re not familiar with French pavé, I recently made a video breaking down the differences between French pavé and traditional pavé—definitely check it out!

Pairing this engagement ring with the 2.8mm band feels both classic and seamless. The band is substantial enough to wear on its own, striking the perfect balance between not too small and not too wide. And because it’s a fan favorite, I’ll be showing you multiple different pairings. So, get ready for some serious sparkle!

Single Shared Prong Crown Cut Wedding Band Pairing

Number two is this stunning crown cut band, a single shared prong design that gives the diamonds a floating, bubble-like appearance.

When paired with this ring, it creates a beautiful contrast with the French pavé setting. The French pavé features four prongs hugging each stone tightly, making it very seamless. In contrast, the crown cut band uses a single prong split to hold two diamonds, creating a delicate and airy look.

However, there's a limitation with the crown cut style—you can't go much bigger than about 3.5 to 3.6mm. If you venture into the 4mm range with only one prong, the stones can feel a bit loose. Despite this, many of my clients adore this combo for its classic yet subtly defined contrast. It's a definite fan favorite!

Emerald Cut Eternity Band Pairing

Alright, let's dive into the third band combination, which happens to be my personal favorite because, let's face it, Bonnie loves everything big and bold. Yes, you heard that right!

When you have a band that's a bit wider, it not only feels incredibly sturdy but also adds that extra, extra bling. And here at By Bonnie, we are all about being super boujee and super extra!

This combination features a wider band that exudes luxury and opulence. It's perfect for those who want their jewelry to make a statement. The broader design not only adds to the overall aesthetic but also enhances the durability of the ring. So, if you're like me and adore everything grand and glamorous, this band combo is definitely for you. Let's embrace the sparkle and go all out with the bling!

Don’t Focus Only On Carat Size!

Alright, let's spill the tea! Recently, someone on YouTube used a lot of my videos to create a video about how engagement rings have "gone too far." Have you seen that video? First of all, she didn't credit my work, which I was not happy about. But besides that, her message was off. She claimed people are wanting overly big rings nowadays and that engagement rings have become excessive.

Don’t Focus Only On Carat Size!Don’t Focus Only On Carat Size!

First of all, it's nobody's business what size of engagement ring you want. Why do people assume that a diamond ring has to be given by someone else? What if I’m a hard-working person who loves diamonds and wants to reward myself with a big diamond ring? So what?

Honestly, in this day and age, we have so many options. It doesn't have to be big; it can be one carat or any size. We’ve made videos and blogs about one-carat rings, and they’re just as beautiful. People forget that fine jewelry is a form of art. It's very difficult to craft these kinds of rings, so it shouldn’t just be about the carat size.

Let's focus on the beautiful memories people are creating with their rings—whether they’re engagement rings, wedding rings, or even rings for personal milestones like graduations or promotions. It's not about the size; it's about what the ring means to you.

So, let's stop judging people based on their rings and start appreciating the artistry and personal significance behind them. And with that, let's move on!

6 Prong vs 4 Prong Round Cut Diamond Ring

Earlier, I touched on the difference between six-prong and four-prong settings, but let me give you a closer look at each one.

Here we have a 3.7 carat with a 2.8mm taper Cathedral setting. If you're not sure what a Cathedral setting is, be sure to check out my video from a couple of weeks ago where I explain it in detail.

Now, let's compare it to the two carat, six-prong version with a 2.2mm band. Notice the difference between the 2.2mm and the 2.8mm bands? A lot of people are opting for super dainty bands these days, but I’m really loving the thicker band, depending on the size of the stone. I think it’s important to find a balance that’s not only proportionate to the carat weight but also suits your lifestyle.

Consider your everyday activities—are you frequently using your hands in a way that might bang your ring around? If so, you might need something a bit sturdier that spins less. All of these factors should be considered when choosing your perfect engagement ring!
