Did you know that a pear-shaped diamond symbolizes tears of joy? Welcome to today’s By Bonnie blog, where we dive deep into pear-shaped engagement rings! Hi, I'm Bonnie, and I’m so excited to walk you through this sparkling journey.
In this blog, we’ll explore:
Let’s dive into the world of pear-shaped diamonds, shall we? When you’re shopping online for a pear-shaped diamond, it’s like an alarm bell should ring! With so many options, it can be tempting to think, “They’re all just pear-shaped, right?” But hold on! There’s so much more to it.
The key to finding your perfect pear lies in understanding the different ratios. Picture this: if you’re looking at a ratio around 1.50, you’re venturing into the chubbier side of the pear spectrum—cute and fun! Move up to the 1.60 range, and you’re in the traditional teardrop territory, which is elegant and timeless. Now, if you’re feeling a bit daring and want something elongated, look for ratios above 1.70.
So, which one is best? That’s entirely up to your personal taste! It really comes down to whether you prefer a wider, chunkier look or a sleek, elongated silhouette. For me, it’s all about the project—whether it’s an engagement ring, a pendant, or drop earrings. Each scenario calls for a different shape!
Remember, when researching pear-shaped diamonds, pay close attention to the specific ratio you’re drawn to. This knowledge is your secret weapon in finding a diamond that perfectly reflects your style and personality. Now, let’s move on to what to avoid when selecting a pear-shaped diamond!
Avoiding the double tuxedo effect is crucial when choosing a pear-shaped diamond! Imagine this: you're dressed in a stunning tuxedo for your wedding, but that's not the look you want for your diamond, right? The double bow-tie effect happens when two dark shadows cut through the diamond, dulling its brilliance.
One of my clients once bought a pear-shaped diamond from a famous luxury brand—yes, the kind with the iconic blue box. She spent nearly six digits only to end up with a double bow-tie disaster. And trust me, just because you're buying from a high-end brand doesn’t guarantee perfection. This is why it's so important to work with someone who knows how to curate and hand-select diamonds, rather than relying on online retailers or overseas vendors who won’t let you see the stone in person.
Also, be cautious of strict return policies. Many online retailers only allow a limited number of returns before hitting you with restocking fees. Who wants that headache after spending thousands?
Another thing to keep in mind is lighting. The bow-tie effect is more prominent in certain lighting conditions, and if you're not careful, it can overshadow your diamond’s beauty. Craftsmanship plays a huge role in this, too. When I remade that client's ring, the difference was jaw-dropping. People couldn’t believe how flawless her pear shape looked, thinking we did some kind of editing magic. Nope, just expert craftsmanship!
Lastly, color matters! Pear shapes tend to show more color than round diamonds, so you want to avoid going below K in color unless you're purposely going for a warm or fancy color diamond. I mean, I love a stunning yellow diamond myself—so if you’re manifesting some sunny energy like me, go for it! Just make sure you know what you’re getting.
Now, let’s move on to settings that will make your pear-shaped diamond shine!
Alright, now let’s dive into the fun part: which setting pairs best with a pear-shaped diamond! Whether you want something classic, modern, or a bit daring, the setting you choose can really make your pear-shaped diamond pop.
This classic option is a fan favorite for a reason. Whether it’s an all-white look, two-tone, or even the Tulip Solitaire, the hidden halo subtly elevates the pear shape without taking attention away from the diamond itself. It’s elegant and timeless, highlighting the beauty of the pear cut without distraction.
A delicate halo around a pear-shaped diamond adds an extra layer of sparkle and sophistication. For those new to the term, a halo is a circle of smaller diamonds surrounding the center stone, while a hidden halo is a row of diamonds placed underneath the stone, invisible from the top. Whether you prefer a dainty halo or an extra thick one, this setting enhances the size and sparkle of your pear-shaped diamond—no wonder it’s a favorite!
Adding French pavé diamonds along the band or combining it with a tulip setting gives your pear-shaped ring an extra touch of glamour. The hidden halo paired with those side diamonds is simply stunning! It’s romantic, sparkly, and fit for a princess. The subtle diamonds on the band enhance the pear shape perfectly, making it a showstopper that feels like true "tears of joy" when you wear it.
Each of these settings is absolutely beautiful, and they all bring out the magic of a pear-shaped diamond in their own special way!
Moving on to the next part of our favorite yes band pairing. Okay, so we're going to feature this solitaire hidden halo pear shaped engagement ring.
This is actually a 1.57 ratio diamond, which I talked a little bit about earlier, where it's kind of like a little chubby, not too long, but still very beautiful. A lot of our clients love this look.
So our first pairing is definitely this petite French pavé. Yes, it is super delicate and beautiful. When you want something that goes with the ring without too much distraction. This literally compels these. The look of a dainty pairing. And if you are in love with the dangly look, this is definitely one of our top choices.
Number two is the marquee and round pear with the pear shape. It is definitely adding contrast to this look, right? It's not just a straight line. You can see that the marquee really pairs well with the pear because it also has pointy ends. So this is again another really delicate look that we absolutely love that goes really well with a pear shaped engagement ring.
Next up is our crown cut shared prong ring. This has definitely been one of our top paired with the pear shaped. Just because our clients love the separation. on the shared prong where you can really see the shape of the round diamond compared to the pavé look, so you can see more contrast. And again, it's a delicate look that doesn't overpower the pear shaped diamond. And it is so pretty when you pair it in gold. And definitely available also in platinum. We've done it in time before.
Last but not least, if you want something a little bit thicker, but still very classic, it's our Sophia round band. 2.65mm. Now, this one paired with it, you can obviously tell that it's thicker. But what's good about this kind of band is that even when you're not wearing your engagement ring, maybe sometimes because of your work, like you're a nurse or you're a doctor in surgery and you can't really wear your engagement ring, this kind of band, it's really good to be a standalone, wider band.
So you get a little bit more finger coverage when you're not wearing your ring, but then when you actually add it back on, it just looks really pretty together.
Which Wedding Band Was Your Favorite?
Alright, time to spill the tea on my favorite wedding band pairing! For me, it’s definitely the Petite Round and Marquise Wedding Band. I love how the marquise diamonds perfectly echo the pear shape’s pointed tip, creating that unique, contrasting look. It’s delicate yet bold—just the right mix for someone who loves a little extra detail without overdoing it!
