Diamond Measurements and Pointers

Today, I’m thrilled to showcase our stunning collection of diamond bands, ranging from 2.65mm all the way up to 5.1mm. Before we jump into the dazzling visuals of how these rings look on your finger and how they pair with other rings, let’s get familiar with some key terminology!

Key Terms to Know:

  • Millimeter (mm): You’ll hear me mention this a lot! Why? Because when it comes to design, the millimeter size is crucial for how the ring sits flush on your finger.

  • Pointer: You might be wondering what this means. Here’s the scoop:

100 points = 1 carat
So when I say “8 pointer,” it means 0.08 carats per diamond.
An “20 pointer” means 0.2 carats per diamond.
And a “50 pointer”? Well, you’ll need to remember that because there’s a surprise pop quiz at the end of this blog!

Why This Matters:

I focus on the size per diamond rather than the total carat weight because:

Every ring size is different.
The number of stones varies from piece to piece.
What truly matters is how big each stone looks on you!

So, without further ado, let’s start trying on these beautiful rings! Get ready to be dazzled!

2.65mm Band Paired with an 3ct Oval Solitaire

First up, we have the 2.65mm diamond band! This beauty features 6 to 7 pointers per diamond and looks absolutely stunning when paired with a three-carat oval solitaire.

2.80mm Band Paired with a Round Solitaire

Next up, we have the 2.8mm diamond band! This gorgeous piece boasts 8 to 9 pointers for each diamond, perfectly blending elegance and sparkle.

Sophia band and Double Gallery band comparison

Side Profile Showcase:

-This beautiful piece is known as the Sofia, also referred to as the double gallery. The main difference lies in the height of the rings. The Sofia has a lower profile, which sets nicely against any ring. So if you have a thicker or taller profile ring, the double gallery will beautifully lift off your finger.

Size Comparison:

The center stone of this ring is approximately 2.5 carats, while the other features a three-carat diamond. Whether you prefer a skinnier or wider band, it ultimately comes down to your personal style!

3mm Band Paired with a Round French Pave Engagement Ring

Next up, we have the Sofia band in a fabulous 3mm size! This band offers a perfect balance of elegance and presence, making it an excellent choice for your collection.

3.50mm Band Paired with a Round Solitaire Engagement Ring

Here we have the Sofia band in a striking 3.5mm size! This band adds a bit more width while maintaining its elegant charm, making it a fantastic option for those who love a bolder look.

Ideal Wedding Bands for French Pavé or Solitaire Rings

For my first pairing, I combined the Sofia band with a beautiful 2-carat French pavé ring that measures 2.1mm. Just look at how lovely they complement each other!

Next, I paired it with a classic 2.2mm solitaire alongside a 3.5mm band. The proportions are simply stunning!

If you're wondering what size to pair with your French pavé or solitaire, remember that anything here is interchangeable! Just keep in mind that when working with your jeweler, there may be slight variations. We take great care in calibrating each and every stone, so it’s essential to communicate clearly about what you’re looking for rather than focusing solely on the total carat weight.

3.70mm Band Paired with a Round Solitaire Engagement Ring

Let’s move on to one of our fan favorites! So here I have a 3.7mm which is 16 to 17 pointer. To be honest with you, this is actually quite a popular size. What are your thoughts on this favorite?

4mm Band Paired with a Round French Pave Engagement Ring

But of course our number one amongst our readers and viewers is our four millimeter, which is 25 points each and it automatically just gives you that extra chunk. Personally, you know that I’m a big diamond girl!

Wedding Bands Can Be Worn On Their Own Too!

Here, I’ve paired the Sofia band with a stunning three-carat diamond ring featuring a 2.5mm French pavé setting. As you can see, the engagement ring is starting to appear a bit chunkier. This is because a thicker band creates a more flush appearance between the ring and the band.

If you opt for a thicker band on your engagement ring, it allows for a seamless look when wearing these bands alone. However, even when worn by itself, the band is still substantial and incredibly beautiful.

You don’t necessarily need an engagement ring to complement it; it can also serve wonderfully as an anniversary ring. The band is robust enough to stand alone, which is one of the reasons why the 25 pointers are definitely a fan favorite!

4.35mm Band Paired with an Oval French Pave Engagement Ring

Moving on to the next size, we have the 4.35mm band, which features 30 pointers at the bottom. This size offers a bold and elegant look that beautifully enhances any ring pairing!

4.70mm Band Paired with an Oval Solitaire Engagement Ring

Next, we have the 4.7mm band, which contains 38 to 40 pointers on top. This stunning band is paired with a 2.5-carat oval diamond, creating a striking and luxurious combination!

Chunky Wedding Bands

Now, we have the 3-carat oval diamond. This combination starts to get chunky, which happens to be my personal favorite! I absolutely love large diamonds and the contrast between the oval and round stones.

  • The mix of shapes makes the design stand out beautifully.

  • While some people prefer an oval-on-oval pairing, I find that pairing an oval with round stones maximizes the sparkle from both shapes.

Oval on Oval Engagement Ring Set

Alright, bonus round time! Remember when I mentioned 50 pointers earlier and hinted at a surprise quiz? Well, here it is! So, what does "50 pointer" mean? That’s right, it means each diamond is half a carat. These bands, with 50 pointers, are absolutely perfect for a wedding band, an anniversary band, or even just a right-hand ring. Whatever you choose, these beauties are a total showstopper!

Let me share a little secret about the details. This band has a double gallery. Now, let me pull up a visual comparison between a U gallery and a double gallery. Why does this matter? Well, if you're like me and super busy with your hands, a double gallery is your best friend! When you start moving into this carat size, a U gallery is gorgeous, but I personally had to switch to a double gallery because my diamonds kept getting loose! So, always consider your lifestyle when choosing a ring design.

Of course, some of my clients aren’t as hands-on and absolutely love the openness of a U gallery. It's all about what works for you! Another bonus point? Stacking! A client asked me, "Bonnie, can you stack 50-pointer round and 50-pointer emerald bands for me?" And you know me, babe, if you ask, I deliver! I’m obsessed with chunky bands, and if you're all about layering those diamonds and celebrating your strength, independence, or just because you deserve it, go for it!

I also have a 33 to 35-point oval on top here. There’s just so much sparkle, it’s like diamond heaven. So, tell me, which diamond shape are you vibing with right now? Round, emerald, or oval? Comment below and let me know!
